Louise Firestone and Joseph Pizzurro have established a camp scholarship in perpetuity to honor the life and legacy of their son, Greg Pizzurro.

From his first summer as a camper, Greg found joy, purpose, and a profound sense of belonging at Poko. That connection only deepened when he transitioned to a staff member and dedicated mentor. Greg shared his love for the 1812 Homestead, swimming, and iconic traditions like the Titan Games, Casino Night, and Pok-O-Palooza with the same infectious energy he possessed as a child.

An accomplished 46er, Greg’s spirit was rooted in the Adirondack wilderness. He brought his reverence for the natural world into every camp activity, approaching each day with curiosity and a sense of adventure. Whether he was leading a high-energy event or finding meaning in the quiet, everyday moments of camp life, Greg was fully present. He was defined by:

  • Authentic Connection: Greg valued teamwork and friendship above all else, building bridges across the entire camp community.
  • Creative Spirit: He used humor and creativity to deepen the camp experience for everyone around him.
  • Heartfelt Leadership: He showed up each day with enthusiasm, kindness, and a sense of wonder.

Greg was a fierce and loyal friend. Through this scholarship, his passion for the trails and his commitment to the camp community will live on, ensuring future campers can find the same inspiration in the mountains that he did.
