in loving memory......

Carl Alden Kriegeskotte, aka “C.A. Krieg,” passed away at Calvary Hospital in Bronx, NY on Monday, January 11, 2021 after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 75. Carl’s family had the good fortune to care for him at home until he was admitted to Calvary, where he spent his remaining hours with his family beside him.
An Emmy Award winning cinematographer and documentary film producer, Carl created highly regarded work for National Geographic, Time-Life Television, The New York Times, Nova, Frontline, PBS, The Discovery Channel and The History Channel among others. Carl was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the United States Marine Corps from 1965 to 1971.
Carl was an avid cave explorer and mountaineer and held a particular affinity for the Adirondacks and Wyoming’s Wind River Mountains; passions he imbued heavily upon his children. The summers Carl spent at Camp Pok-O-Moonshine as a kid were among his most cherished memories, an experience he was able to share with his children when they became campers there.
Carl was a master machinist, a skill he dedicated primarily to his lifelong passion for steam power. If he wasn’t carrying his camera through isolated mountain top villages in Papua New Guinea, across the deck of an aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf or along the ashy slopes of an erupting volcano in Iceland (among countless other remarkable adventures), Carl could be found with his friends and family aboard his hand-built steamboat navigating the canals, lakes and rivers of Upstate New York and New England. In his retirement, Carl became an Adjunct Professor at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey where he and his students drew plans for and fabricated an exact replica of Colonel John Stevens’ 1804 steamboat, Little Juliana.
Carl is survived by his wife, Victoria and their two children, Christian and Isa. Carl’s children both follow in their father’s footsteps as creative arts professionals. His family fondly remembers him and will continue to admire his unique and charismatic example as they celebrate his remarkable life.
Carl’s family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his memory to the Adirondack Scholarship Foundation, which will help make the enriching experience of outdoor education accessible to future generations of Pok-O campers.
