2008 Fall Campaign

November, 2008

Dear Alumni, Parents and Friends,

The Adirondack Scholarship Foundation is so important to the lives of many children, in particular, the 21 campers who received scholarships for the 2008 season.  Without financial aid from the Foundation, their dreams of new adventures, climbing in the High Peaks, learning new skills, making long-lasting friendships and being away from home to mature and develop, would be impossible.

Thanks to you, our board was able to award 49-thousand dollars in scholarships.  It's important to note that of the 21 campers receiving aid, 15 were returning campers.

Again in 2008, we have been boosted by our annual fund raising events.  The Patch Sprint- the adventure race, trek and reunion held at camp each Memorial Day weekend- raised $6,171.  In August, our newer event, the “46-in-a-Day” took in over $5,000 in donations while climbing 45 of the Adirondack 46ers. We are extremely grateful for the support of these two events, as well as the ongoing donations of dozens of camp individuals, alumni, families and friends.

However, our work for 2008 is not done.  We still need to fulfill our scholarship goal by raising another 20-thousand dollars in contributions.  With the economic downturn, I'm sure more parents will be asking for financial aid.  This will place additional strain on the 2009 scholarship budget.  Through your generosity, if we are able to raise more than $20,000, the extra funds will go to the 2009 budget.

You can understand why your contribution is so important to us and, more importantly, so meaningful to those campers who want to return to camp for another glorious summer.

Many thanks, again.

Sincerely,

Jack Swan

P.S.:  Remember, you are always welcome to come visit us at camp, as well as participate in the Patch Sprint (www.patchsprint.com); the 46-in-a-Day (www.pokomac.com/46inaDay/index.html) or attend our 105th Camp Reunion:  August 19-23, 2009.
