2009 Spring Campaign

May 1,2009

Dear Alumni, Parents, and Friends,

My name is Asher Miller and I am both a member of the board of the Adirondack Scholarship Foundation and a former Pok-O-Macready camper (1976-82). I felt more humble than worthy when I was voted Honor Camper by my peers my second summer at Pok-O, which is pretty much how I feel writing to you now. But I volunteered because camp was and remains such an important part of my life that I want to ensure that others have the opportunity to experience it too.

I'll get right to the point. There are 21 terrific children who have been accepted for financial assistance for summer 2009, including 15 returning and 6 new campers. Their backgrounds are diverse, their needs differ, and each family is contributing as much as it can towards tuition. The Foundation is committed to allocating $45,000 to cover the balance, but we are $29,000 short. In a year when the endowment has shrunk 25% so far -to $300,000 - we can't achieve this goal without your immediate help. Reluctant to take money out of the endowment for use as direct assistance in the best times, we can ill afford to do so now.

Please help by sending a check to the Adirondack Scholarship Foundation, or give by credit card or Paypal on the Foundation's website, www.adkscholarship.org.  Be as generous as possible, and know that all donations, large and small, are most welcome. (If you are unable to give this year but know someone who might be interested in helping out, please let us know!)

On behalf of the directors and present and future scholarship recipients, thanks for your support.

Yours sincerely,

Asher

P. S. By now, I am. sure most of you have heard about the Birch Bark Book. When it  appears, I, for one, look forward to reading your reminiscences of Pok-O-MacCready seasons past. Please take this opportunity to help create some new memories for 21 super kids.
