Dear Pok-O-MacCready Alumni, Parents, Staff and Friends:
With great pleasure and purpose I’ve accepted the position of President of the Adirondack Scholarship Foundation. For those of you who may not know me, outside of my name on the 46er board in the dining hall, I have a long and broad family history with Pok-O starting with my father’s and Jack’s childhood friendship at camp in the 1940’s.
For many years I have been honored to serve on the foundation committee that makes decision about the awarding of scholarships. Each year we wonder how the children who attended camp with scholarship assistance enjoyed themselves? Did they learn a new skill; build a network of friends from far away places; change their perspective on life at home, and contribute to their school and community? Mostly, we wonder if they’ll be able to return to camp, and how we’re going to be able to help fund a child’s camp tuition, often for several years to come.
This past year has again displayed the generous spirit of our supporters. Foundation director Tim Singer reports on “another successful Patch Sprint and Pond Sprint that brought in a combined 12-thousand dollars. Also, thanks to 13-year old camper Dan Marin, who took it upon himself to do a fall hike up Mt. Marcy to raise money for scholarships. And, of course, we are grateful to our hundreds of donors who gave in honor or the memory of loved ones. Most importantly, we were able to award 22 full or partial scholarships for the 2015 camp season!”
Knowing that all of us now reading this letter are annually bound together with the common purpose of both raising the capital, and creating the opportunity for deserving children, I’d like to reach out to all of you to ask for your donation, so that we can continue to grow our scholarship endowment and provide several more of the high-quality life experiences that we all know camp can provide.
If you have yet to give in 2015, we hope you’ll take advantage of this reminder in order to make a contribution to this wonderful cause. If you have donated to us in recent months, you are always welcome to pledge again, but you already have our deepest gratitude! Your donation is tax deductible. If you wish, you may donate online, you can do this quickly, conveniently and securely by CLICKING HERE.
We want to thank you for the dedication and support you have put into the Foundation, and I’ll look forward to either meeting you and/or getting reacquainted with my old circle of friends at camp next summer, during which time we hope to be able to report that we awarded more scholarships in 2016 than ever before!
Wishing you a great holiday season!
